Diane C. Haar is the founder of Hawaii Disability
Legal Services, LLLC, a private public-interest law firm dedicated to
helping individuals obtain Social Security Disability, Supplemental Security
Income, and Veterans Disability benefits. Based in Hawaii, Diane represents
people with disabilities throughout the Hawaiian Islands, the Pacific
Territories, the Philippines, and other communities across the Pacific region.
Diane brings an extensive legal and academic background to
every case. She earned a Bachelor of Science with Highest Honors from the
University of California, Berkeley, followed by a Master of Public Health and
Juris Doctor from Yale University. Before focusing her practice on disability
law, she worked on international war-crimes litigation before the
Eritrea-Ethiopia Claims Commission at the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The
Hague. Her personal experiences with serious injury and disability inspired her
to advocate for people who can no longer work at full capacity and need financial
and medical support for their future.
Since beginning her disability-law practice in 2008, Diane
has helped more than a thousand people pursue Social Security, SSI, and
Veterans Disability benefits. Her clients have included veterans, individuals
experiencing homelessness, people affected by traumatic accidents, and those
living with serious medical conditions. She provides representation at multiple
stages of the benefits process, including proceedings before the Social
Security Administration, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the United States
District Court for the District of Hawaii, the Court of Appeals for Veterans
Claims, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. She is also admitted to
practice before the United States Supreme Court.
Diane combines detailed knowledge of federal
disability-benefit programs with a compassionate, client-focused approach.
Supported by a team with close connections to the United States military, she
helps clients understand complicated requirements, prepare supporting evidence,
respond to benefit denials, and pursue appeals when necessary. With permanent
offices in Honolulu and Kailua-Kona, Hawaii Disability Legal Services remains
committed to helping people with disabilities and veterans seek the benefits
and support available to them.
